Why is the price of fuel rising in France?

Summary The causes of the increase in the price of fuel Future prospects

The causes of the increase in the price of fuel

The first cause is primarily political but above all global.

In October 2018, a barrel of oil cost more than $ 80 compared to $ 57 the previous year. This is due to the global rise in oil prices. This rate is applied to the whole planet, so it is difficult to avoid the crisis.

It is possible that it changes at any time because of the increase in the dollar, the price of a barrel or the price of crude oil.

The second cause Concerning the increase in taxation in France, fuel is affected by 60% by this increase. In 2018, diesel and fuel saw an increase ranging from 10 to 15 cents / liter in one year. A further increase is expected in 2019, of around 7 cents / liter for diesel and an increase of 3 cents / liter for gasoline.

The goal is political but also ecological. After all these increases, gasoline will therefore be cheaper than diesel because its effects are considered less polluting.

The outlook for the future

With the news of the increase in the price of diesel, many rushed to refuel. The social repercussions have been difficult, especially for the French from the middle class, but what are the real solutions?

The gasoline engine

One of the solutions is to invest in a gasoline-powered car. Indeed, the Minister of the Economy as well as the Ministry of the Environment aim to make the price of a liter of gasoline cheaper compared to diesel. Investing in a gasoline car can be a first solution!

The electric car

The electric car is an increasingly popular way to avoid a constant sharp rise in the price of fuel in France. Its cost is higher than a gasoline diesel car, but afterwards it is a car that can be recharged, either at home or at a dedicated gas station.

CapCar offers several gasoline car models that meet your current needs!

Alternatives already on the market for a long time

Faced with rising fuel prices, alternatives are becoming more and more interesting, some of which have been around for a long time. This is particularly the case with two fuels: LPG and bioethanol (E85)!

Present on gasoline-powered cars, Liquefied Petroleum Gas can replace traditional unleaded. It has the downside of increasing fuel consumption, but since it is much cheaper at the pump and pollutes less than gasoline, LPG has many advantages. However, there are fewer petrol stations serving LPG than others, and this fuel suffers from a bad reputation, wrongly. From there to wondering if it is still relevant to drive an LPG car in 2019, the question remains open and whole.

Bioethanol (E85)

Like LPG, E85 (also called ethanol or bioethanol) is cheaper at the pump and less polluting! It is currently the cheapest fuel on the market and can be driven for less than 70 € cts / liter on average! Less widespread than gasoline, however, it tends to become more democratic, thanks to its many advantages. Good to know, this fuel resulting from the refining of agricultural crops (beets, wheat, etc.) has a neutral impact on the environment (in theory, the crops absorb as much Co2 as what bioethanol cars emit), and makes it possible to increase the energy independence of our country. But it is still underused and too little present in our stations! A good alternative when driving a petrol car.
