Chrysler New Car Warranty

New Chrysler vehicles come with a manufacturer's bumper-to-bumper warranty. The Chrysler warranty includes three years or 36,000 miles of coverage. This covers repairs to almost every system in your car, but there are some important exclusions. For example, normal wear and tear is not covered by a Chrysler warranty.

Chrysler has several other types of warranties in addition to bumper-to-bumper coverage.

Chrysler Warranty Type

Coverage period

What does it cover?

Basic Limited Warranty Coverage (Bumper-to-Bumper)

3 years/36000 miles

This protects almost every part and system in your car that was installed before it left the factory. Repairs are made free of charge only if parts are damaged due to poor workmanship or defective parts.

Powertrain Limited Warranty

5 years/60,000 miles

This covers all parts and systems related to your car's drive system: the engine, transmission, all-wheel-drive, rear-wheel-drive and four-wheel-drive.

Anti-corrosion warranty against perforation

All panels: 3 years, unlimited miles. Exterior panels: 5 years, unlimited kilometers

This warranty covers the cost of repairing sheet metal that rusts due to corrosion from the inside out.

Emissions Warranty

Up to 8 years/80,000 miles

Many emissions parts are covered under the Basic Limited Warranty, but the Catalytic Converter and Powertrain Control Module are covered longer. Chrysler also adheres to California emissions standards.

Mopar® Parts & Accessories Limited Warranty

Varies by room

This covers a long list of Mopar parts, such as the battery, Corning Gorilla Glass, seals and gaskets.

An added benefit of the Basic Limited Warranty is that it covers brakes (drums, linings, rotors and pads), wiper blades, clutch plates or modular clutch assemblies, breeze and rear windows, as well as wheel alignment and balancing. Protection does not last the full duration from bumper to bumper, but these items are not always covered by a manufacturer's warranty.

If you sell your car with a warranty still in effect, the new owner gets the remaining warranty coverage. For example, if you buy a new Pacifica minivan and sell it after one year and 12,000 miles, the new owner still has two years or 24,000 miles of bumper-to-bumper warranty coverage.

Legacy Chrysler Powertrain Warranties

Chrysler previously offered a five-year, 100,000-mile powertrain warranty for new vehicles. This has changed to the current five-year, 60,000-mile powertrain warranty starting with model year 2016 vehicles. If you own a 2015 Chrysler, you may still be covered by the five-year, 100,000-mile warranty. powertrain, depending on when your car was officially put into service.

Chrysler Warranty for Certified Pre-Owned Vehicles< /p>

Even if you don't buy a new Chrysler, you can still get a Chrysler warranty. Chrysler Certified Pre-Owned (CPO) vehicles are used cars that meet certain age and mileage restrictions. Unlike an uncertified used car, CPO vehicles undergo rigorous inspection by certified technicians.

All Chrysler CPOs come with a limited warranty. Chrysler CPO warranties require you to pay a deductible for each repair visit. See the table below for more information on CPO Chrysler warranty coverage.

CPO Chrysler Warranty Type

Coverage period

What does it cover?

Powertrain Limited Warranty

7 years/100,000 miles from the date of original sale of the new car.

This covers the repair of engine, transmission and transmission systems.

Maximum maintenance guarantee

3 months/3000miles from date of sale as a CPO vehicle or when original new car limited warranty expires.

Over 5000 named components in your vehicle are covered.

You can transfer the CPO Chrysler warranty if you sell the vehicle and the warranty has not expired. There is a transfer fee of $150 to transfer a CPO warranty to the new owner.

Exclusions in Chrysler Warranties

One of the biggest limitations of manufacturer warranties is what qualifies a part for coverage under the warranty. To receive repairs at no cost to you, the damage must have arisen from defective parts, poor workmanship, or defective materials.

Some things your Chrysler warranty does not cover:

Regular maintenance needs (oil changes, cleaning)

Wear damage from normal driving activity

Environmental damage (tree sap, spray, road hazards, etc.)

Modifications added after the vehicle left the factory (installation of non-original parts)

Modifying your Chrysler's odometer may void its warranty.

Chrysler Reliability & Repair Costs

When buying a new Chrysler or deciding to purchase an extended Chrysler warranty, it's worth checking the reliability ratings so you know what repairs to expect. Chrysler vehicles have average ratings. The 2020 JD Power U.S. Vehicle Reliability Study

ranks Chrysler among automakers. In November 2019, Consumer Reports ranked the 2020 Chrysler Pacifica as the second least reliable vehicle. RepairPal gives Chrysler a rating of 3.5 out of 5.0.

That doesn't mean you should steer clear of the Pacifica or other models. We even think the Pacifica Hybrid Limited is perfect for families. Not to mention that it comes with a stylish and premium interior, and the hybrid model gives you excellent efficiency. To combat lower reliability ratings, you'll need to think about how to pay for repairs in the long run.

With the help of RepairPal, we've listed some of the most common Chrysler repairs below.

Chrysler model

Routine repair

Range of costs

2017 Chrysler Pacifica

Alternator replacement

$870 –$922

Chrysler Pacifica2018

Replacing the airbag control module

Chrysler 3002017

Cylinder head gasket replacement

$1223 to $1515

2016 Chrysler Town & Country

Electric sliding door motor replacement

2019 Chrysler 300

Radiator fan motor replacement

$313 to $345

Like all cars, your Chrysler is more likely to have mechanical problems the longer you drive it. You can plan the cost of repairs in advance with an extended warranty.

Is a Chrysler Warranty Extension Right for You?

The Chrysler warranty helps protect your car when you first drive it the lot. However, the limitations and short warranty period can leave your car unprotected just a few years after you buy it.

A Chrysler extended warranty provides additional protection for your car. You can buy one when your manufacturer's warranty is in place and get additional protection not covered by the factory warranty. After the manufacturer's warranty expires, your car is still protected by the Chrysler Extended Warranty.

You may see extended warranties called “vehicle service agreement” or protection plan. This is because extended warranties are not a real warranty at all. Instead, an extended warranty is a contract between you and a supplier that helps cover car repairs that occur over time.

Chrysler vs. Third-party warranty companies

An extended warranty is a great way to avoid paying entirely out of pocket for expensive car repairs. There are two options when choosing protection for your Chrysler:

Mopar Vehicle Protection Plans

Independent extended warranty contracts

Mopar, a name formed from the words "engine" and "parts", is the parts and service division of Chrysler. You can only purchase a Mopar extended warranty from your Chrysler dealer. Third-party warranty companies provide vehicle service contracts for almost any vehicle and are not tied to any brand or automaker.

So which is the better choice?

Benefits & Disadvantages of the Chrysler Extended Warranty from Mopar

The Chrysler Extended Warranty from Mopar includes two service plan options for new and used vehicles. Mopar no longer offers an extended lifetime warranty option on Chrysler vehicles, but you can purchase coverage for up to eight years.

You could potentially save thousands of dollars on auto repairs with an extended warranty for your Chrysler. Be sure to consider all of your options before choosing a warranty.

A Mopar Service Contract gives you the option of purchasing your protection plan directly from the dealership. On the other hand, an extended warranty from a reputable third-party company saves you on the cost of your plan and gives you flexibility in plan options.

There are many options for third-party warranty companies, but our top picks are Endurance and CARCHEX. These companies give you many flexible options to protect almost any vehicle, not just a Chrysler, Dodge, Fiat, Jeep, or Ram.
