Kia Extended Warranty is an optional vehicle protection plan designed to save you from paying for unexpected repairs to your car after your factory warranty expires. With a Kia extended warranty, your vehicle can be protected for up to 120,000 miles.

There are five Kia extended warranty options that you may be eligible for depending on your vehicle:

Powertrain: Covers your engine, transmission, drive axle and additional components of your hybrid/plug-in electric vehicle

Silver: Covers all components of the Powertrain Coverage Plan, plus your steering, brakes, air conditioning, electrical system, and front suspension

Gold: Covers all Silver plan components, plus engine, transmission, drive axle, brakes, air conditioning, steering, front suspension, electrical, and additional hybrid/plug-in parts

Gold Plus: Covers all Gold Plan components, plus engine cooling and additional parts in each component category

Platinum: Acts as an exclusive bumper-to-bumper warranty that covers most parts, excluding routine maintenance and wear items

Every Kia Extended Warranty Plan warranty uses genuine Kia parts and factory-trained technicians for all covered repair work. Manufacturer vehicle maintenance contracts are also transferable to any subsequent driver if you sell your Kia before coverage expires.

Additional Benefits

Each of Kia's five extended warranty plans comes with a few other benefits, including:

Towing coverage: Covers $75 per incident for all towing costs

Rental Car Reimbursement Coverage: Covers up to $35 per day for up to 10 days while your vehicle is in store

Travel Coverage: Covers up to $100 per day, up to $500 total, for food and lodging if your vehicle breaks down away from home and you have to stay overnight while it's away. repair

Fluid Coverage: Free fluid replacement with any covered repair

While these benefits are useful in the event of mechanical failure, they are not as extensive as other manufacturers' additional benefits, both in terms of coverage and cost limits.

What is not covered by the Kia Extended Warranty?

Any extended car warranty comes with certain exclusions, and Kia's extended car warranty is no different. The manufacturer's vehicle maintenance contracts will not cover:

Misuse or Abuse

Improper use of fluids

Environmental damage

Negligence or improper maintenance< /p>

Wear parts like batteries and filters

Routine maintenance services like oil changes and tire rotations

For covered repair work, Kia drivers can either take their vehicle to a local Kia dealership or to one of 6,000 Authorized Service Centers in the United States and Canada.

It is important to note that the manufacturer does not state its Kia extended warranty cancellation policy online. Many providers offer drivers pro-rated warranty refunds, but it's best to check with your dealer about this option.

Kia Extended Warranty Cost

Kia does not advertise the cost of its vehicle maintenance contracts, but we were able to find customer reports that the manufacturer charged between $1,600 and $3,900 for a 10-year contract. The cost of your Kia Extended Warranty will depend on several factors, including:

Your vehicle type: Certain models may be more expensive to cover.

The age and mileage of your vehicle: The earlier you purchase coverage, the cheaper it will be.

Your deductible: Generally, choosing a lower deductible results in a higher overall cost of coverage.

The duration and type of your coverage: longer, more comprehensive coverage plans are usually more expensive.

Under the Kia Extended Warranty, all parts and labor are covered. Maintenance plans can be financed with your vehicle, but we generally advise against doing so as you will end up paying interest on your protection plan.

Do you need Kia Extended Warranty Coverage?

Are car warranty extensions worth it for Kias? The answer depends on a few different factors, including the reliability of your Kia, your ability to pay out of pocket for unscheduled repairs to your vehicle, how long you plan to own your Kia, and your current coverage.

To determine a car brand's reliability, we turn to RepairPal, a site that analyzes customer reports to estimate common repairs and repair costs for 32 car brands. Below, we've outlined RepairPal's findings on Kia's reliability.

*A serious repair, in this case, means that it will cost at least three times the average annual repair cost.

Based on data from RepairPal, an auto warranty extension may not be necessary for Kia drivers. Most Kia models seem reliable, requiring few repairs. However, this does not mean that an unexpected mechanical or electrical repair is impossible. According to the 2020 JD Power U.S. Vehicle Reliability Study

SM, which measures the number of problems occurring per 100 vehicles within a brand, Kia models are only slightly above the industry average in terms of reliability. Of 100 Kia vehicles studied, 132 problems occurred.

What Kia coverage do you already have?

You can also consider coverage you already have for your car, such as the Kia New Vehicle Warranty and Kia Certified Pre-Owned (CPO) Warranty.

The Kia factory warranty is one of the longest in the industry. New Kias are backed by a five-year or 60,000-mile bumper-to-bumper warranty, whichever comes first. New vehicles also benefit from a 10-year or 100,000-mile powertrain warranty.

CPO Kias also have a 10-year or 100,000-mile powertrain warranty. However, instead of a new-vehicle limited warranty, CPO Kias comes with Platinum coverage for one year or 12,000 miles.

If you don't plan on owning your car longer than these coverage limits, it doesn't make sense. by investing in additional coverage.

Benefits of a Kia Third Party Extended Warranty

Purchasing an extended Kia warranty from the dealership is just one way to get extra peace of mind on the road after your factory warranty expires. You can also opt for independent Kia protection. While there are pros and cons to extended auto warranties from either provider, here are some benefits of getting third-party coverage:

Third-party providers offer longer coverage terms.

There are additional coverage options for older vehicles with higher mileage.

You can purchase coverage at any time rather than before your New Vehicle Limited Warranty expires.

For drivers interested in a guaranteed Kia warranty extension, we recommend Endurance and CARCHEX.
